To steer a bicycle you will certainly need your hands especially when you are into competitive cycling. Unlike exhibition cycling where you can ride a bicycle without using your hands in competitive cycling you need to keep hold of your bike as you go faster and faster. Holding the handles for long periods of time can have some effect on your hands as well. That is why when you are shopping for cycling apparel it is of utmost importance that you include cycling gloves. Cycling gloves are essential cycling clothing. Generally, cycling gloves are chosen for specific reasons, namely for protection, warmth and comfort. These three areas need to be covered by the perfect set of gloves, to ensure the best cycling experience.

Like any other cycling apparel there are misconceptions about cycling gloves. Before you do anything it is best that we correct this misconception. Cycling gloves are not only worn in cold weather. The hands of a cyclist are constantly exposed to the elements, whether it’s cold, wet or hot. Consider the placement of the hands on the bicycle; they’re right out in front. A reflexive action is to stretch out the arms and hands if there is a possibility of falling. This action may also increase the risk of hurting the hands, in either a minor way, with scrapes, or in a much more serious manner, like a break. Wearing cycling gloves offers a level of protection for minor incidents. In simpler terms like the other cycling clothing cycling gloves are worn in order to provide some degree of protection to the hand.

For cycling gloves to be efficient it should not cause any discomfort on the rider’s part. So when purchasing cycling gloves comfort should be considered. Comfort is important not only with cycling gloves but with any cycling apparel as well. The hands take a lot of the stress during the ride. The bumps, sudden turns and annoying obstacles make the hands work hard. For that very reason, they should be made comfortable. But don’t rush to buy a set of cycling gloves with the most padding because that could lead to problems. If the gloves are heavily padded, they will cause the hands to rest unnaturally on the handlebars, thereby stressing the joints. The nerves in the hands may become compressed, leading to pain and numbness. When buying cycling gloves; choose the comfort level that will allow you to grip the handlebars in the most natural manner.

The best way to ensure that your cycling gloves are comfortable is to try it on. There is no other way to determine comfort in cycling clothing other than trying it on, not only do you get to check the fit but you also get to check on whether or not you feel comfortable wearing it. Comfort can certainly affect your performance. If you don’t feel comfortable with the cycling apparel that you are wearing it may end up affecting your ride. Keep in mind that other than protection cycling clothing should be comfortable as well.
